Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate and honor the important women in your life. At the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida, we are constantly reminded of the bond between mother and child. Each day, the moms staying at RMH are consumed by the care of their sick or injured child. Their strength and courage is an inspiration for all mothers.

To honor your mother or special woman in your life, please consider making a donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida so that families like Briana’s will have a place to stay when they need it most.

Marlins Ayudan Visits Ronald McDonald House

Marlins Ayudan team “Pierce’s Heroes” spent the afternoon volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida. The group arrived at 11am for a tour of Ronald McDonald House. Following the tour, the group served lunch, catered by Don Camaron, to the residents and families staying at the 27 bedroom facility. Multiple trays of Arroz con Pollo, Garden Salad, and Platanos Maduros were on the menu for all the residents to feast on.

“Pierec’s Heroes” spent their time dining, and mixing and mingling with all the families that were able to attend. Some of the team members helped out parents with feeding and looking after the kids, allowing parents, what I’m sure was, a much-needed break.  The group enjoyed the rest of their afternoon by playing a variety of board/card games including Uno and Connect Four. Others spent their time reading to the children or working on some of the coloring books the children brought along with them.

All in all, “Pierce’s Heroes” provided a day for the families to escape from the stressors they’ve encountered over the past days, weeks, months, even years for some. They were able to share stories and some laughs with some new friends. These few moments of peace and relaxation are a blessing for the families of Ronald McDonald House and “Pierce’s Heroes” were the group privileged enough to provide them that opportunity.

Check out below for some photos from the event!

27th Annual Ladies Fish-Off

The Committee members of Ladies Fish-Off are all links in the HEART CHAIN

The Ladies Annual Fish-Off was established 27 years ago and has flourished ever since. This year’s tournament will be held May 31st – June 3rd of 2012. Ladies Fish-Off is one of the largest fishing tournaments in South Florida both by number of boats and anglers and continues to grow in number every year.

The ladies who fish the tournament have put some trophy fish on the dock in recent tournaments including a 54 pound kingfish, a 57.7 pound Dolphin and a 77.2 pound Wahoo. The top ten boats and top three lady anglers receive cash and prizes along with the top three largest fish in the five non-billfish categories: cobia, dolphin, kingfish, blackfin tuna and wahoo.  Top family, top junior, top captain and top pee-wee prizes will also be awarded.  Last year we were able to donate $22,453 to our charities. Our goal for 2012 is to be able to raise $40,000 for our beneficiaries. As the name implies, only lady anglers may enter, but men can join the fun as captain and crew.

The Ladies Annual Fish-Off is not only a chance to fish with your fellow women it is also an opportunity to raise money for some exceptional organizations. Over the past twenty-six years the event has raised more than $400,000.00 for our charities. This year money raised during the event will benefit The Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida, The Billfish Foundation and Nova Southeastern University Student Scholorship Fund.
