Meet the Michael Family

In April 2021, Mina and his wife Manar traveled with their two young children, Noah, 3 and Adam, 8 from Cairo, Egypt to West Palm Beach, Florida to visit friends for vacation. The trip became a nightmare when a boiling soup spilled on Noah’s chest and part of his arms, causing 3rd-degree burns. After rushing to the local hospital for emergency care, Noah was referred to the world-famous Miami Burn Center located at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Weather made an airlift impossible, so terrified and nervous they quickly drove towards a city they had never been to – leaving their other son Adam, behind. Noah was admitted for extensive treatment. Back in West Palm Beach, Adam had to remain in the care of friends – It was the first time the family had ever been split. The days quickly turned into weeks and months of doctor visits and it became clear the family needed to move to Miami in order to stay together as Noah underwent treatment. The inredible costs and the emotional toll were unimaginable. Fortunately, RMHC of South Florida had an opening and was able to serve as their home away from home. “We are grateful for the lovely staff of RMH that treated us and took care of us like the nicest family members” said Mina.

Today, Noah is still healing, and the family has been able to stay together and within walking distance of the pediatric hospital where he is being treated. Big brother Adam is happy to be with his family and has found comfort living in a new place after such a stressful time, thanks to the warm meals and the support and activities that volunteers provide. RMHC exists to serve families like the Michael’s and we are committed to growing our House so that we never have to turn away a child like Noah.
